this is my beloved H9 P-51 PTS with some custom modifications including Robart mechanical retracts, and an OS 72 4 stroke. (it has also been rebuilt 5 times due to high speed encounters with trees and dirt.)

Jul 25, 2008 - Super nice job!I really like the way you mounted the engine, so it does not stick out too much. You think 2 stroke could be mounted like that? How much weight did retracts add?Thanx!

Jul 25, 2008 - I had a 2 cycle mounted at 90 deg with a Pitts muffler out the bottom, it worked well, but inverted 2cycles don't run too well.the retracts only added about 4 oz, not as much as one might think. the added weight is negligable in flight.thanks for your comment.

Jul 25, 2008 - Did you take the covering off to install the retracs. Dumb question I know. Love this plane but retracts would add a little zip. Was thinking of adding a OS52 for a little more power.

Jul 25, 2008 - yep, have to remove the covering around to area and the balsa skin was redone, one rib removed (#2), and the well built up w 1/16 basa. then just recover it w matching ultracote from hanger 9.I think a 52 would be awesome too.hope to see some video of your plane!
